Willamette Valley — Water Year (October – September)
Rainfall is tracked by water year — October 1 through September 30 — the
standard used by USGS and Oregon State University for the Pacific Northwest. This framing
keeps the wet season (October – May) together in a single year rather than splitting it
across two calendar years. For Willamette Valley viticulture, total water-year rainfall
and its timing relative to budbreak and harvest are key indicators of vintage character.
